Description

This is an excellent bow for the beginner violin player. This is a simple correctly made bow adequate for beginners or as a back up. Progressing players will require something a bit better. The bow is made of Brazilwood, a traditional material for student bows, with an octagonal stick and solid ebony frog. The frog is 'half mounted' i.e. of solid wood without a metal backing plate and features a pearl dot decoration. See photo. The lapping is a 2 colour plastic with a leather thumbgrip. The natural horsehair is pre-rosined with quality professional grade rosin so the bow is available for immediate use. The bow can be rehaired in the normal way

Specifications

  • Octagonal Brazil wood stick.
  • Half mounted ebony frog with pearl dot and slide. 1/8-4/4 size
  • Imitation whalebone lapping and genuine leather thumb grip. Natural white horsehair.

Good beginner bow

Pros: I am very pleased with the bow, it is clearly better than the previous bow that my son had (bought as part of a set). It makes a lovely sound.

Bent bow. Can't be bothered to demand refund.

Pros: It was pre-rosined.

Cons: The bow had easily the largest lateral bend I've ever seen. Fortunately the granddaughter it was bought for will soon be moving onto the next sized violin and its bow is straight.

Nice bow for the price

Pros: Looks good. Nice weight. Decent quality bow hair. Sounds better than my old bow which came free with my beginner violin. I enjoy using it for lessons and practice

Cons: A few hairs had frayed on arrival.

Very good quality and value

Pros: The combination of price and quality. It is a little heavier than the expensive bow I had been borrowing, but had met with approval from the experts.

Cons: I think I like the lighter weight bow, but am getting used to this one and there are no problems and the difference is marginal.

Other: I have the iimpression that this is about the best value for money that one could expect to find anywhere.

good beginners bow at a good price

Pros: It felt balanced and with sufficient weight (within the limits that it is hard for an adult to appraise a 1/4 violin bow). It looked well put together. Overall, I was pleased with it.

Cons: given the price, no real gripes.
