Small-star-onSmall-star-onSmall-star-onSmall-star-onSmall-star-on Sweet top-end.
Pros: This Eudoxa/Aricore Viola A-string is a beautiful curiosity. It is marketed by Pirastro as "fitting perfectly in a set with gut strings" (i.e. Eudoxa strings, which are "wound/gut-core") yet the string itself has a synthetic core. In any case, Pirastro already make an A-string for the Eudoxa set which is wound/gut-core and an Aricore A-string which is aluminium on a synthetic core. If this Aricore/Eudoxa A-string is a "perfect fit" with Eudoxa strings then why is there the standard Eudoxa A-string as well? Whatever the thinking behind this string there is no doubt that its tone is particularly sweet and beautiful; less bright, less “cutting" than the standard Eudoxa A-string (I’ve not tried the standard Aricore A-string). It also works perfectly well with Obligato Viola D/G/C-strings.
Cons: Nothing - it's just lovely! (but, as always with violas, the impression will change from instrument to instrument).
