Excellent, reliable tone

Pros: Very fast delivery, I needed a set very quickly. Excellent, reliable tone. Just used them to record a CD with.

Cons: Personally I avoid getting the gold E string as I prefer the steel.

Obliged to try Obligato strings
3 out of 3 found the following review helpful

Pros: The respond very quickly to short bow strokes and have a bright sound. It's almost like I am playing on a new instrument. Previously I had been using Pirastro Eudoxa strings, but after these kept breaking for no apparent reason I changed to the Obligato set.

Cons: I purchased the Gold E string and although it does have a nice sound, it annoyingly whistles when playing chords. I will probably try the Evah Pirazzi set next time, they seem to be the ones used by most professional players.

Other: Great service from the String Zone, have made several purchases from them and will continue to do so in the future.

Excellent strings
2 out of 2 found the following review helpful

Pros: Very fast delivery as usual, great strings which were recommended to me by violin teacher at university :)

Cons: Nothing- I went for the steel E instead of Gold E this time and I can't really tell any difference other than the E no longer whistles!

Make the jump - you'll be glad you did
3 out of 4 found the following review helpful

Pros: Wow the response! They're amazing. Bright, textured, immediately the instrument livens up! Makes it a joy to play - I recommend Pirastro to my pupils as a string they can have confidence in.

Cons: I wish I'd changed my set sooner. They last well (for me) for about 2 years before they start to dull, I've put off changing mine for 5 years which really is a bit long to wait - the strings stretch once they get this old, and become dull and unresponsive, and can't be tuned. Mind, I really did put off changing them this time for too long, so I'm not surprised

Other: Worth getting the Obligato rosin to go with them, it's a gorgeous rosin anyway. Also found AB rosin to be a good substitute.

Well-tried strings, excellent on any instrument
3 out of 4 found the following review helpful

Pros: I've always liked Obligatos. They have a pleasantly warm sound but with plenty of 'edge' and penetration. I have a collection of violins which I play regularly and these strings suit pretty well any instrument, in my experience. They last well enough too.

Cons: Nothing

Other: None

Disaster avoided - with great thanks
3 out of 4 found the following review helpful

Pros: Just the brightness and "authenticity" of the sound (they sound like a violin should!)

Cons: Too damn expensive, but you get what you pay for at the end of the day.

Other: The express delivery saved my bacon that day. Thank you!

Obligato-cautiously impressed!
2 out of 2 found the following review helpful

Pros: Very full sound, very respnsive and fast break in time. I think they have a very rich tone, and it is possible to produce a wide range of gradations.

Cons: They aren't cheap. Their performance depends very much on the fidddle - well, based on a statistcially relevant sample of 2. On two quite similar violins, the obligatos produced a lot of sound, but on the louder of the two violins, they were quite brash initially, though that does Appear to be tempering with time.

Beautiful strings which makes my violin sing
2 out of 2 found the following review helpful

Pros: Beautiful warm tones Stays in tune fairly well A big improvement on the Dominant strings

Cons: Maybe a bit expensive

Other: Be careful putting the strings on and keep an eye on the bridge positioning so that it doesn't snap from uneven tension

good choice
2 out of 2 found the following review helpful

Pros: Lovely sound

Cons: Nothing

Other: Really pleased I took up another player's recommendation for these strings. Had always played on dominant before and these are most definitely superior - a lovely rounded sound.
