Pros: Very effective at dampening the sound - I bought this mute because I lived in a shared flat and you could only hear me playing if you were actually in the room! Practicing with a mute is never ideal in the long term but when it makes the difference between keeping up your practice and not, this one's a good one to go for. I found the E string still had a nice ring to it despite the mute being present, which was an added bonus.
Cons: Storing it near your violin when you have to change between mute on and mute off is a bit tricky, you can't just blutack it like you can with a normal mute, it's a bit too heavy for that. I'd recommend keeping this one in your case for practice at home, and have one of the normal round ones for when you're at orchestra/in concerts, for ease of changing between muted and non-muted passages in your sheet music.

Pros: Bought this mute as I live in a flat and wanted to be able to practise without being worried about disturbing my neighbours. The difference between this mute and an ordinary mute is astounding. You can really tell the difference, especially if you remove it half way through practising for a comparison.
Cons: Theres nothing not to like as it does its job - it basically dampens the sound. So if you're wanting to hear your violin sing and sound its best then don't buy a mute and go live in a detached house!

Pros: Living in a flat, surrounded by neighbours, the violin is not the most sociable instrument to learn to play! This is making it easier to practice more without upsetting the lovely people who live around me.
Cons: None to mention

Pros: Easy to apply/remove - fits in most cases without taking up too much room - light - effective - allows violin to still resonate
Cons: a bit chunky, but that's what you get from most practice mutes
Other: I haven't used it that much as it is very effective (which makes me feel like I have a bad cold or am a little deaf), but it's good to know I have it as I travel a lot and it's useful when staying in hotels etc.

Pros: The low profile of this practice mute allows me to see and monitor the bow POC. This mute produces medium muting (which is what I want) when compared with my heavy, tall and visually obstructive, metal mute. It won't damage the violin if accidentally dropped on it (a definite pro).
Cons: It does 'colour' the sound somewhat - especially of the G and D strings.
Other: An inexpensive, medium mute.

Pros: it really works and seems to improve the tone of my violin and makes practice a more acceptable thing for all the family and animals
Cons: nothing to dislike does exactly what it is supposed to do
Other: would highly aprove it being used by everyone, service from String Zone excellent

Pros: It produces a much more muted sound than a normal violin mute. I can practise at length without annoying my neighbours or family.
Cons: The fit on my bridge is a bit tight but I expect this to loosen after longer use. By deadening the sound it does affect the quality of sound and it is important to play without it as well in order to be aware of how you sound when playing normally as it may mask problems in playing technique!
