Great mute for quiet practice at home
Pros:
Very effective at dampening the sound - I bought this mute because I lived in a shared flat and you could only hear me playing if you were actually in the room! Practicing with a mute is never ideal in the long term but when it makes the difference between keeping up your practice and not, this one's a good one to go for. I found the E string still had a nice ring to it despite the mute being present, which was an added bonus.
Cons:
Storing it near your violin when you have to change between mute on and mute off is a bit tricky, you can't just blutack it like you can with a normal mute, it's a bit too heavy for that. I'd recommend keeping this one in your case for practice at home, and have one of the normal round ones for when you're at orchestra/in concerts, for ease of changing between muted and non-muted passages in your sheet music.

My neighbours still speak to me!
Pros:
Living in a flat, surrounded by neighbours, the violin is not the most sociable instrument to learn to play! This is making it easier to practice more without upsetting the lovely people who live around me.
Cons:
None to mention

Does a lot of muting but changes the tone
Pros:
Certainly makes a greater difference then smaller mutes I've used in the past.
Cons:
Totally changes the timbre, but that is to be expected with that much muting.

The 'Ultra' violin mute is fantastic!
Pros:
Having started to play again, after a gap of 40 years, I was aware that my music-making might not be to everyone's taste. The Ultra practice mute is fantastic, because it's incredibly easy to fit and you can still get a decent tone, whilst decreasing the volume considerably.
Cons:
There were no 'cons' that I could find!
Other:
I ordered my mute over the phone and it arrived the next morning. Brilliant service!

Doesn't mute very well when playing chords.

Good inexpensive option for muting your violin
Pros:
As said by other reviewers, this allows me to practise, without annoying others. Solid rubber means no damage to instrument, however not quite as quiet as other heavier options. All in all a great buy, especially for just over £3! Fast delivery too.
Cons:
No cons worth mentioning

Very effective and simple to use
Pros:
I am very pleased with this product. It mutes effectively while retaining enough volume for pratcice. With my steel strings it produces a nice mellow tone.
Cons:
None that I can think of. First time I have used a mute so it took me 30 seconds to work out how to fit it :-)
