The Best Violin strings that I've used!
6 out of 7 found the following review helpful

Pros: The service offered by String Zone is excellent! And the postal delivery time is quick. I shall continue to use String Zone as long as their pricing remains competitive, especially as quality strings are expensive but really do make a difference to sound quality. And because good quality strings make a violin sound better it means that playing is also so much more enjoyable. (Of course, good violin technique and daily practice are essential to producing a good sound. Until this purchase I have tried Dominants and other brands, but mainly Eva Pirazzi strings. However, having read positive reviews of Thomastik Vision Solo with Silver D string I decided to take the plunge and have not been disappointed! I am so delighted with the tonal quality and playability of the Vision Solo strings that it is highly unlikely that I shall use any other strings. These strings project sounds very effectively without being too bright, and are highly responsive to the full range of pressure from the bow, without wolf notes! By c, or rasping. By contrast I found that the Eva Pirazzi's required more pressure from the bow to produce a pleasing sound, and wolf notes on the E string were really irritating. The D string also sounded slightly dull. (The D strings is generally recognised to be tonally the weakest of the strings but the Vision Solo Silver D have solved that problem for me). The Vision Solo strings also stay in tune better than the Eva Pirazzi's and are much better suited to my violin. When the open strings are played they ring beautifully. There is no question that the right choice of strings is very, very important. However, the strings perform best and last longer when any build up of rosin is removed by cleaning after every session. I've found that good single malt whisky keeps my strings sounding sweet! :-). It also important that rosin does not build up on the bow hair. I therefore periodically wash my bow hair with soap flakes rather than use denatured alcohol which I know is used by some musicians. When commenting on the sound of different makes of strings people often speak of some strings sounding 'bright' others 'mellow' etc. However, I've found that even a slight adjustment of the bridge relative to the position of the sound post can have a dramatic effect. I now have my violin set up exactly as I like it.But even after allowing for influencing factors such as bow hair and bridge position, I am very pleased with the quality of sound of Vision Solo strings with Silver D.

Cons: There are no Cons! :-)

Good for fast playing
5 out of 6 found the following review helpful

Pros: Good longevity in A and E string. Nice slick feel and light touch for fast passages

Cons: G and D seemed to be of a thinner gauge compared with other brands. This set came with a silver D and began to unwind sooner than I would have expected.

Other: A great sounding set of strings that I would buy again, perhaps not opting for a silver D again.

Excellent strings
5 out of 7 found the following review helpful

Pros: I have been trying different strings to find which suit my violin best – I think I have found them. These are the best strings I have played on. The G was surprisingly full, deep and mellow straight away. The A was a little bright to start, but played in after a few days. The D was somewhere between. The E is as good as any and less prone to whistling than some. All have an easy and quick response while not lacking in power and richness.

Best violin strings I've used.
2 out of 3 found the following review helpful

Pros: Thomastik Vision Solo with silver D have been my preferred strings for 3 years. They settle in quickly and hold their tuning. I play for about 4 hours 6 days per week, and my strings last 3-4 months. Their longevity I put down to cleaning the strings regularly with Gin.and using a light rosin on the bow hair.

Cons: The E string is not the best. I use a Goldbrokat E which produces an amazing sound and VERY cheap. The string positively 'sings'.

Other: Most importantly Stringzone violin strings are competitivelu priced and fast delivery.

Excellent strings with a rich tone.
2 out of 3 found the following review helpful

Pros: Rich, good all round sound, not as metallic as the Titanium and last longer. Once settled they maintain their tuning. Powerful enough for Solo's.

Cons: A little tinny for the first few days but bed in quickly.

Vision Solo set with Silver D - Simply the Best!

Pros: My second set of Vision Solo with silver D string. Delighted with these strings as per my previous review.

Cons: No Cons.

Other: Excellent service from Stringzone and quick delivery. These strings suit my old violin better than Dominants. And I much prefer these to the Eva Pirazzi's that I used over the past 2 years.
