Pros: It cuts down the volume by almost 50%!! I wouldn't have believed it, if I had not tried it myself. Sticks in place and doesn't fall off. Now, I can practice at any time of the day in my dorm and not feel guilty about scaring my dorm mates!! =)

Cons: As the name suggests, it's a bit heavy, but I guess it comes with the level of volume reduction, so it's all right. I had to file my bridge to fit the mute though, which was a big hassle.

Other: A lot of people say that it makes it harder to look at the finger board if you have such a big mute, but think about it, the finger board is actually much farther than that! Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this mute, and it keeps my neighbours happy too!! XD

Bit pricey and doesn't quite do the job.
4 out of 4 found the following review helpful

Pros: It fits nicely onto the bridge and does reduce the volume to a reasonable degree, especially if you play very lightly.

Cons: It is very heavy, which means you have to be conscious of the way you pick up and put down your violin, maybe I am just being overly cautious in case it falls off - though it never has. It doesn't mute the E string very well in comparison to the other strings and if you're playing anything with gusto, or above mezzo-forte, it will be audible outside the room. My housemates on the other side of my bedroom wall still complain about the noise, which means I can never really practise anything lively or that requires a lot of passion. The mute was described as being ideal for "anti-social" hours (inc. hotel rooms), but I play in the middle of the day and people still complain, so I wouldn't rely on it if you're thinking of playing late into the evening.

Other: You probably won't get a mute that will work better, but it's not perfect and not really worth the price.

Brilliant mute
4 out of 5 found the following review helpful

Pros: This is significantly quieter than the rubber mute I've been using. So yes, worth buying if you don't fancy spending a lot for an electric violin in order to play in near silence. It's almost quiet enough for others in adjacent rooms (with doors closed obviously!).

Cons: Slightly heavy obviously, but it hasn't damaged the bridge of my violin (yet..). It may also leave marks on the bridge where it sits but that's just a minor concern. It can fall off, so I've been using bits of tape to fix it down temporarily - again, it's just a minor thing.

Good but take care to avoid dropping it

Pros: Good volume reduction.

Cons: Damages things if you drop it on them; this is easily done as it only rests on the brigde.

Brilliant purchase but fit it with care
1 out of 1 found the following review helpful

Pros: It reduces the sound SO much that I can happily practice in hotel rooms and B&B rooms without disturbing other guests

Cons: You do have to be careful as you put it on and take it off - very heavy so there's a danger if you drop it

Other: Brilliant purchase, it keeps me sane when I work away from home

Heavy, but mutes very effectively
1 out of 1 found the following review helpful

Pros: Very effective muting, more than the rubber practice mute which I also own. Mutes without changing the sound too much.

Cons: Sits / balances on top of the bridge rather than fitting deeply over it - this gives the feeling of instability and that it might fall off, potentially damaging the instrument. The weight of the mute is significant and makes the violin much heavier to hold, but this weight is what gives the muting effect.

Other: Very fast delivery from The String Zone as usual!
