Aluminium on gut. Black binding at peg end.
All strings are ball end, full size, medium tension unless specified.
Gut cored Pirastro A. Please note that these strings are very delicate and have a shorter and unpredictable life span compared to other strings. We do not recommend their use by beginners or that they be fitted to instruments not set up by trained and experienced craftsmen.
Recommended for violas with a playing scale of 35-38cm which covers most violas of back length 15-16.5 inches

Pros: The Eudoxa A string possesses just the right balance of response and reserve power, and is in my opinion the most reliable for consistent tone production. I have used it professionally for over 30 years. From time to time I have experimented with a natural gut A, but always seem to come back to the Eudoxa A to make the perfect match with the rest of my viola strings.
Cons: Eudoxa are not the most durable of strings, but I accept that as part of the exchange for quality of sound.
Other: Unlike some other brands Eudoxa works equally well on large and small violas.

Pros: Beautiful, expressive tone. My viola really sings with these strings!
Cons: Goes out of tune, so you have to check and retune sometimes during lessons or between movements.
Other: I have been buying Pirastro Eudoxa strings for my viola for 25 years. The only thing that would tempt me to change would be a string which sounded just as sonorous, but stayed in tune for longer.
