A velvet E string
Pros: Being an (old) adult returner these remind me of the E strings that I had on my first violin which used gut G D and A strings. The tones produced by this E string are all heart (or core) with very subtle (or limited) harmonics which blend in perfectly with gut or the modern equivalent of gut strings. Highly recommended for anyone not wanting a bright E.
Cons: None

Pros: Price and quality of tone.
Cons: The string has to be replaced on a regular basis because the tone is lost within two months of constant playing. Not a problem when they are so cheap.
Other: Good enough for Heifetz.......

Goldbrokat string brings security.
Pros: I bought this string because it was recommended to me to prevent a whistle. It did help, although I discovered the whistle occurred because the violin is new and the bridge is slightly higher at the E string side than previously. So I was hitting the string without realising it. However, I am also inclined to think this string does help.
Cons: nothing. Fine.

Very good, but maybe not fit for all violins.
Pros: Good sound, which mixes well with the remaining strings. Not too shrill, but present.
Cons: Didn't last long. My first one broke by itself after 40 days, because of corrosion (and i am a manic cleaner, and my sweat is not acid). In a particular new violin i own it sounds good, but it chokes a bit the whole response of the violin. I tested 2 different .27 gauge. Next time i'll try a .26, for a bit less tension.
