A warm sounding string viable for a quality violin
Pros: Price, stability and warmness of sound. Practical for playing for example in musicals, in warm venues and on occasions where frequent tuning isn't an option. Better case life for spare instruments. Not too bulky under the finger.
Cons: Loss of quality and complexity of sound from gut core strings, as usual the D worst impacted. I'm more aware of the winding than on the gut core strings.
Other: Better with more modern violins. The viola ones are, I think, very good. It was using the viola ones made me want to try them on violins.
