The Advanced Steel E string consists of a new material that improves significantly the playability and the sound of E strings. The Wondertone Solo E has an outstanding sound volume and impressive power. The string has a very fast response over the whole dynamic range and is also non-whistling.

Pros: Bought to replace squeaking gold plated Obligato E. Squeaks are gone and the tone is excellent; powerful and positive. Very responsive too.
Cons: Nothing.
Other: Usual excellent service from the String Zone

Pros: Much less whistly than the Evah Pirazzi that I took off, it just didn't agree with my violin. Definitely a good tone when I can calm the whistles, strong but not squeaky
Cons: Still whistles more than Dominants It's an odd colour, almost black, it makes my violin look a bit lopsided with 3 silver coloured strings on it and this grey-black E, it looks like my E string is missing!

Sweet and long lasting
Pros: Tried a lot of different E's, the cheaper ones lost their edge fairly quickly. I've had a Wondertone that was still good/sweet after over a year of playing. I practice at least 10 hours a week.
Cons: None
Other: Other strings are Infeld Red's

Pros: This is a top top string. It is thin and elegant. It doesn't fray like split ends and it does abrade the finger tip as you do that elegant little fixing into tune minuscule glissando. It tunes to E perfectly and stays in tune nicely.
Cons: This is a single string. If you order this thinking it is a set of violin strings, you will be disappointed and there is a real risk the sound post will fall out leaving you with something which looks like a fiddle but sounds like a man rubbing a grubby finger around a wine glass in a pub in County Clare. You will be unable to play much of the repertoire you have mastered and Bach is out of the question.
Other: I recommend this string. Its function is unambiguous and it has a friendly outlook.
