Medium versus Forte on hurdy gurdy
3 out of 3 found the following review helpful

Pros: I use Corelli Crystal on my hurdy gurdy. They have a warm tone and good resistance to wear. The relation between tension, pitch and degree of vibration (string movement) is always a concern particularly to avoid excessive vibration. I tried the Forte against the medium and found the medium better. The Forte gave a coarser sound and moved as much as the medium so no benefits.

Cons: See above.

String changing is easier with Corelli strings.

Pros: The subtle nuances of strings are subjective, but I like Corelli strings because they seem sturdy and are very easy to feed through the peg holes.

Cons: Can't really think of any.

Good sound & long life from Corelli Crystal

Pros: As an instrument maker, I find Corelli Crystal a good all round string with a longer life than many others.

Cons: Nothing except the cost :-)

Grade 8+

Nice sound, good feeling of grip by the bow
0 out of 1 found the following review helpful

Pros: Recommended by a friend in Glasgow, and I've had no complaints. Also cheaper than Dominant, with a nicer sound.

Cons: There is nothing to dislike

Other: I find the G string needs replacing more often than the other strings. The bow polishes the contact area, so that in very quiet passages, the hair slides over the string without making it vibrate.

Good string, perfect for hurdy gurdys!
0 out of 1 found the following review helpful

Pros: The string settled in quickly, and holds in tune very well. It has a clear tone and quick response. I personally use this string as a low G melody string on a hurdy gurdy, and for this purpose it is perfect. The low iron content of this string allows me to use coil pickups too. The consistancy between strings means I do not have to re-tune my keybox, and intonations.

Cons: The strings have a slight memory (insignificant really), meaning if you tune up from a semitone flat, it becomes slightly flat after a couple of minutes. No real cons to mention.

Other: Perfect for a low G chanterelle on a hurdy gurdy, and the Forte makes a good low-low D on a hurdy gurdy.
