A great A string which 'sings so sweetly'

Pros: This Larsen A (which replaces an Obligato A which I found disappointingly dull) 'sings so sweetly' on my 1907 Thomas C Buttcher viola and lives up to its reputation.Took only a few days to completely settle and stays in tune very well. Blends in beautifully with Obligato C, G and D strings to give a consistent sound picture - an excellent combination which I'll stick with.
Cons: Not cheap but great sound and worth it.
Other: As others have commented it is the combination of string and instrument under review.

Good longevity: clear yet warm
Pros: Very stable and clean but warm tone. Blends well with my other strings (Dynamo D,G, Rope Core Evah P Gold C). Good longevity. Never tried Larsen on viola before but I see many more people using them these days on the A.
Cons: None

The only A string I use these days
Pros: A well rounded string, both bright and resonant on my viola. Pairs well with synthetic strings such as Dominant and Obligato. The only A string I use these days.
Cons: You have to match it with other strings. The Larsen D is fine but you really should use better G and C strings.
Other: Fast service by String Zone.
Professional
Snapped on restringing
Pros: I have been loyal to Larsen for years because I like the feel under the fingers and the tension on my instrument.
Cons: This will be the last Larsen A I buy because, and not for the first time, the string snapped as I was putting it on. It snapped right at the peg box. Money wasted.

One of the best A strings for viola.

Pros: Non-shrieky A. Lasts well and holds its pitch well within a day of being put on the viola. This may be the best A string out there, though it has at least one cheaper rival.
Cons: Expensive.

Very good sound

Pros: Very satisfied with this string. I bought it to replace the A on a set of Evah Pirazzis on my large (16.75") viola, as I felt the Evah A was a bit strident. The Larsen settled down straight away with minimal need to retune, and blends superbly with the other Evahs. It has a rounder sound than the string I took off. Recommended!
Cons: Nothing
