An excellent string especially for orchestral work
1 out of 1 found the following review helpful

Pros: I won't use anything else on my viola. The warm rich tone is just what I require from this string as it blends well with my Obligato G and also the Larson A. These strings are powerfull enough for a large orchestra and the sound carries well. These strings will outlive many other brands.

Cons: No negatives at all.

A very rich and warm full sounding string

Pros: As per my previous review 29/12/2017 I like this string very much with its lovely rich and warm sound, which at least on my viola is hard to match with other make string of similar price.

Cons: My only slight disappointment is that it seems to wear out around 3 months (200+ hours) - which may be typical of a silver wound string - and obviously this is quite costly over time.

A warm exceptionally 'silky smooth' string

Pros: A warm and exceptionally 'silky smooth' sound with my 1907 Thomas C Buttcher viola. Took only a week to completely settle and stays in tune very well. Blends in beautifully with Obligato C and G strings.

Cons: Not cheap but worth it for such a rich sound

Other: As others have commented it is the combination of string and instrument under review

Why change?

Pros: Not much. The sound is not noticeably better than the lower cost Dominant D it replaced.

Cons: The price.

Beautiful sounding string.

Pros: Lovely tone, smooth feel. Reasonably priced.

Cons: Took about two weeks to 'settle in'. It stretched a little , especially in the first few days, but got less and less, now it stays in tune between playing.

Other: I upgraded my D and A strings to Pirastro Obligato and kept my Dominant C and G. They blend in well for the moment but as they are so good I'm tempted to upgrade the others!

A welcome improvement.
0 out of 1 found the following review helpful

Pros: I have recently put Pirastro Obligato D, G and C strings and Larsen A on my bargain-basement Chinese viola and they have considerably improved the tone quality making it richer and more responsive.

Cons: The difference is all positive so no complaints.
