Description

Gold and silver on gut. Brown binding at peg end.

Aluminium wound on natural gut.

Oliv are the world's consummate gut cored string. For many decades these strings have been the choice of many of the world's leading soloists and professional players.

The wide range of gauge and cover options mean it's possible to achieve the absolute best from any instrument. These strings appeal mainly to players of the highest ability looking for a string with they which can 'customise' the sound of their instrument. They can significantly improve the sound of an already good instrument.

Due to the delicate nature of this type of string construction the life expectancy of these strings is inexact and their tonal stability is inferior to a synthetic cored string. As with all gut cored strings they are not recommended for use in fine tuners due to their elasticity.

Pirastro gut string tensions are measured in units of PM (Pirastro Measurement) and refer to the diameter of the string. 1PM = 0.05mm, so gauge 14PM = 0.7mm diameter. The tension of the string varies by 3% for each gauge.

Please note. This string does NOT have a ball end and is not suitable for use in a fine tuner. Please ensure this product meets your requirements prior to purchase.

Professional

A fine G string

Pros: Good sounding string. Very stable for a gut string more so than the gold label G. Whether that is to do with the construction of the string or the addition of gold in the winding I do not know. Has plenty of volume and lasts a good while. Nearly 6 months in my case.

Cons: It does not have as vintage a sound as the gold label G, which of course is not necessarily a bad thing for some people and should not discourage anyone from trying the string. It costs a lot and is second only to the Oliv stiff which I have not tried because of the price.

Love this string

Pros: Didn't take too long to settle and I love the tone. Sounds so much better than previous strings I've used. Pricey but is producing the goods!

Cons: Have to keep tuning but really not too bad
