Description

The original and best known synthetic cored string. Regarded as the reference standard for this type of string. Well adapted to give excellent playing properties on any instrument.

Dominant strings give a warm and clear sound which closely approximates to a traditional covered gut string. Tonally stable and easy to play on they suitable for all players beginner to professional.

Available in three tensions in full size and medium tension in fractional sizes. Aluminium wound on a multi-strand synthetic core.

To check your instrument size measure the length of the back (LOB) excluding the 'button' which is the thumb shaped extension at the top where the neck is anchored. Old instruments can vary, if more than 1/2" over choose the next size up.

4/4 - LOB 356mm (14")

3/4 - LOB 330mm (13")

1/2 - LOB 305mm (12")

1/4 - LOB 280mm (11")

1/8 - LOB 254mm (10")

A great all round product

Pros: Very reliable for sound, and very durable. Adjusts (stretches) in about a day after fitting making it a very practical string.

Cons: None. Possibly on an older violin a lower tension or gut string maybe preferable- but then you would loose some of the reliability, durability and practicality mentioned above.

Softer tone

Pros: The lower tension gives a softer tone on my strident french violin.

Good quality, good value string.

Pros: Good quality string that lasts. In these hard times, good to be able to buy strings on their own rather than full sets. The 'A' string always wears out way ahead of the rest. Probably more to do with the stuff I'm playing rather than the quality. Playing fiddle, mandolin, cittern acoustic and electric guitar, string buying can be an expensive business.

Cons: If there is a 'con' it has to be that Dominants don't sound great when first put on, I've found this with quite a few different fiddles. They need a few days of playing in. Once played in they give (for me )a good quality consistent sound.
